If you forget any of those, you will not be able to pick up your tickets from a machine (you should go to a manned ticket counter if you have forgotten any of the above and they MAY be able to issue your tickets).

When picking up/exchanging a PASS, you will be required to show your "Temporary Visitor" stamp/sticker stamped or put in your passport upon entering Japan. During the screening for pick-up/exchange, be sure to show your passport* and "Temporary Visitor" stamp/sticker. The PASS will not be issued if the name in your passport is different from the name on the Exchange Order or the name who purchased the PASS online. The PASS will not be issued if you don't have your passport with you or if you only have a photocopy of your passport, since the "Temporary Visitor" stamp cannot be confirmed. Customers who have "registered user cards" under the Trusted Traveler Program will be asked to show the cards to confirm the "Temporary Visitor" status.

(1) Scan the QR code on your JAPAN RAIL PASS with the reader on the reserved seat ticket machine (or input the reservation number written on the PASS), and input your passport number.(2) Input the travel section, date and time, etc., and select the train and facilities.(If you have already booked reserved seats online, select the itinerary for which the ticket should be issued.)(3) Check the inputs, and if everything is correct, issue the ticket.

Everyone wants to get the best value tickets possible, but without doing extensive research it can be tricky. This guide to Shinkansen tickets will explain the different types, where to buy them from, how to use them, and how you can save money by getting the best-value tickets.

Certain trains may use a single integrated ticket, but often you need both a passenger and express ticket to board your train. Train attendants routinely check for both types of tickets during the journey.

Up to 2 infants can travel for free. The regular child fare (50% of full fare) applies if the child occupies a reserved seat, green car seat, or bed. In parties with more than 2 infants, only 2 may ride for free; tickets must be purchased for all additional children.

Many people wonder if they can book a Shinkansen (新幹線/Shinkansen-bullet train) ticket and a JR ticket overseas. In the past, it was not possible. However, starting from the end of March 2019, you can book JR tickets overseas! Although there are some restrictions, you can make reservations of Shinkansen tickets, JR Express tickets, and JR Passes on the JR-WEST ONLINE TRAIN RESERVATION website. After booking, just pick up your tickets in Japan.

You don't need to worry about seat availability, waste time waiting in line, or communication problems with staff at the station. Let Centrip Japan introduce you how to book, pay and pick up JR tickets as well as recommended areas to visit!

*The JR Group operates both the Shinkansen and Japan Railways. The JR Group consists of 6 individually-run regional operators: JR Central (Aichi, Shizuoka, Gifu), JR East (Tokyo, Nagaono), JR West (Osaka, Kobe, Hiroshima), JR Kyushu, JR Shikoku, and JR Hokkaido. Please be advised that JR West news regarding online booking applies to all JR routes.

If you are traveling outside the scope of the JR pass you must check if you need additional tickets. Please note that only JR tickets can be booked online. Others such as tickets for subways, private railways (i.e. Meitetsu railway (名鉄/Meitetsu-Nagoya Railroad), Kintetsu railway (近鉄/Kintetsu-second largest railway system in Japan), monorail trains, etc. are not supported by this service. Please take that into consideration when you start your online reservation.

Please note that not all JR trains tickets can be reserved. The Shinkansen, Limited Express (similar to the express train), reserved seat tickets & non-reserved seat tickets can be reserved on the JR-WEST ONLINE TRAIN RESERVATION website.

The JR PASS and other special discounted tickets for international visitors can also be booked on this website, but only the JR-WEST RAIL PASS & ICOCA & HARUKA for the Kansai region are currently available. Check here for special ticket information.

3. The related trains will be shown on the page. You can choose an ordinary car or non-reserved seating. What you should pay attention to is that the reserved seat tickets are only available when paying by credit card (immediate payment), for non-reserved seat tickets you can choose to pay by credit card or at the station (pay after the reservation is completed).

For special discounted tickets a passport is required. You will need to go to the green ticket vending machine displaying the passport mark, or the JR Ticket Office for purchasing and receiving. It should be noted that the location for getting your ticket differs depending on which special discounted tickets you buy, don't forget to check it at the beginning. It's simple, tickets can be received from JR ticket machines displaying the e5489 mark, or JR Ticket Office.

The tickets for JR Central, JR West, JR Shikoku, and JR Kyushu can be received at any JR station. JR East tickets can only be collected at Japan Travel Centers and cannot collect tickets for JR Central. For example, the Shinkansen from Tokyo to Osaka, or the JR lines in Nagoya and to Takayama are not available.

If you want to purchase and receive tickets at ticket offices, you must go to a JR Ticket Office. (the ticket vending machines at Nagoya Station cannot read passports, the special discounted tickets can only be purchased at ticket offices)

Hi Glenn, after 51 years i will finally be in Argentina to hopefully see Boca play against Arsenal on 3/11, can you please provide the absolute best way if any I can get 2 tickets to this game please. I am coming from Australia finally and would hate to miss this chance to see them live as I will never get this chance again, any help would be much appreciated, thanks George

Hi George, thank you for visiting our website and welcome to Buenos Aires. Getting tickets for Boca Juniors is difficult. I would suggest contacting Landingpadba. This is not a guarantee for getting the tickets. At this moment there are no other ways. Have a pleasant stay in Argentina ? Cheers.

Hi Bruce, travelers contacted us with their review about Viagogo. Often we receive the story of fake tickets or cancellation at the very last moment. Therefore, the chance of a valid ticket and that you will actually see the game is very low.

Now for the caveats: the number of tokudane tickets are limited, and are of course, going to be the first to sell out. It works better if your travel dates and times are flexible, so you can hunt around for available tickets.

Tokudane tickets are only available as e-tickets, so you have to have an IC card (like a Suica or Pasmo) linked to your Eki-net account. This also means you get the e-ticket discount of 200 on reserved seats. (More on this below).

Eki-net has a tutorial (only in Japanese) demonstrating the process. It also shows the exact time that tokudane tickets become available. For example, the 14-day early bird discount technically becomes available at 11:50 p.m. on the eve of the 13th day before your intended departure.

Frequent JR East Shinkansen riders can earn JRE points that can be used to pay for future Shinkansen tickets and/or upgrades. We say frequent because like most Japanese points schemes, the payoff is not great. You get 2% points for every Shinkansen ticket purchased through Eki-net. If you pay with a View credit card you get another 3% points. But even at 5% points it would take a long time to earn the, say, 7940 points required for a one-way ticket between Tokyo and Sendai.

Click on the JR Tour (JRツアー) tab on Eki-net and you can book package deals that include Shinkansen tickets and acommodation. Offers vary, but the better deals work out to costing little more than the standard round-trip train fare. Unfortunately, everything is in Japanese.

JR East (like all the JRs) offers a 20% student discount on Shinkansen tickets to students enrolled at universities (or junior and senior high schools) in Japan. To purchase tickets with a student discount, you will need to first get an official certificate called a gakuseishō (学割証) from your school/university. Bring the certificate and your student ID to any JR ticket counter. Student tickets must be purchased in person, and station staff will check your ID. (The certificate you receive from your school will have your name and student ID recorded on it, and can only be used by you). 041b061a72
